Folkestone - The Best Place To Live In The South East

Updated: Apr 17

Folkestone - the best place to live in the South East. It has a fantastic ring to it, and will be added to our pitch when speaking to out of areas buyers/tenants moving forward. But why has our coastal town been listed as the best place to live?

Folkestone is rich with history, art and culture. Take a read below to hear about some of our favourite places to go along the coast.

  1. Folkestone Warren - The Warren is a tranquil space that offers walking routes for those looking to explore the Kent Coast, gain some exercise and be close to nature. It's a quiet spot only known by those local to the area, and one we'd recommend should you want to explore a beach that is quieter then Sunny Sands or the Mermaid Beach. There are multiple entrances to the Warren - the most common used are the routes near The Campsite or tennis courts.

  2. The Harbour Arm - Part of every Folkestone residents summer is the Harbour Arm. The Folkestone Harbour Arm features multiple food and drink outlets, from an array of local businesses. It's a beautiful space for relaxing in the sunshine whilst indulging in local artists who often play music in the outside performance spaces. If the weather is dull, we'd recommend heading to the Goods Yard where you can watch live sporting events, or movies, under the comfort of large parasols and heaters that function all year round. The Goods Yard has hosted some of the towns biggest sporting fan zones over the years - including the successes of both the Men and Women's World Cup, The Euros and The Six Nations.

  3. The Old High Street - A huge part of Folkestone's heritage is our links to local artists and businesses. Home to the Triennial, Folkestone and it's residents embrace local art. It's part of what put our town on the map, and can be enjoyed every three years in the local area. The Old Street puts a focus on local artists, clothing brands, restaurants and cafes and allows anyone walking through to emerge themselves in everything Folkestone has to offer. We'd highly recommend stopping at Marleys or Steep Street should you want a coffee and cake, or a home cooked lunch by the harbour.

With plenty to do, an array of places to eat and the opportunity to enjoy a 'liquid lunch' at some traditional British pubs, or a converted lighthouse bar, it is no surprise our hometown has been titled the best place to live in the South. We'd encourage anyone who hans't yet moved down to explore everything Folkestone has to offer. It really is the place to be on a sunny day and we're proud to call it the home of Match Estates.
